Male NOR Female

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28 NKJV)

Some think that in heaven mankind will cease being male or female. Some think that the discontinuation of earthly marriage in the resurrection reinforces the idea that man will no longer be male or female: “For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.” (Matthew 22:30 NKJV) Yet the passage actually states that the state of being neither male nor female applies even TODAY: The Young’s Literal Translation states, “There is not here male and female.” (Galatians 3:28 YLT) There are few who would imagine that mankind TODAY has ceased being male or female. There are few who imagine that there is not a benefit in the differences between male and female. As Alistair Begg has stated, “Women are superior to men - at being women. Men are superior to women - at being men.” (Alistair Begg)

Some have thought that angels are “gender neutral”; yet many angels are described in MALE terms, using the description of “his” and “him”:
•    “So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth.” (Revelation 14:19 NKJV)
•    “Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, ‘Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth’. So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth.” (Revelation 16:1-2 NKJV)
•    “Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea.” (Revelation 16:3 NKJV)
•    “Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water” (Revelation 16:4 NKJV)
•    “Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire.” (Revelation 16:8 NKJV)
•    “Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast.” (Revelation 16:10 NKJV)
•    “Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates.” (Revelation 16:12 NKJV)
•    “Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air.” (Revelation 16:17 NKJV)
•    “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.” (Revelation 20:1 NKJV)

•    Mankind was originally created as male and female: “He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created.” (Genesis 5:2 NKJV)
•    The separation of mankind into male and female occurred was another perfect part of a perfect creation: “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them … then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” (Genesis 1:27-31 NKJV)
•    Adam was still fully “male” even BEFORE there was a female: “And the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.’” (Genesis 2:18 NKJV) Adam and Eve would have lived FOREVER as “male” and “female” if they had not sinned: “Then the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever’” (Genesis 3:22 NKJV)

•    Not only will there be male and female in heaven, there will be the truest male and female when Christ and His bride are united: “Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Revelation 21:2 NKJV)
•    Christians will no longer be given in marriage to EACH OTHER, for that was only a foreshadowing of something much more solid: “The law, having a shadow of the good things to come.” (Hebrews 10:1 NKJV)
•    The earthly marriage foreshadows the heavenly relationship between Christ and the church: “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” (Ephesians 5:31-32 NKJV)

•    If being male or female is somehow discontinued in heaven, then being Jewish would also have to be discontinued in heaven. Yet the tribes of Israel are prominent in the New Jerusalem: “She had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.” (Revelation 21:12 NKJV)
•    In heaven, the Greek will be grafted in as a spiritual Jew: “You, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree” (Romans 11:17 NKJV)
•    The one who was an Israelite became an apostle of the Gentiles: “I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin … I am an apostle to the Gentiles.” (Romans 11:1-9 NKJV)
The One who sits on the throne calls Himself the descendant of the Jewish king David: “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” (Revelation 22:16 NKJV) Yet He is also known as the King of all nations: “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15 NKJV)

•    If being male and female is somehow discontinued in heaven, then being bond and free would also have to be discontinued in heaven. Yet those who are free who are Christ’s slaves and those who are slaves who are the Lord’s freemen: “For he who is called by the Lord as a slave is the Lord's freedman. Likewise he who is called as a free man is Christ's slave” (1 Corinthians 7:22 HCSB)
•    The One who is the greatest in heaven is the servant of all: “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” (Mark 9:35 NKJV)
•    One of the great titles for Jesus is that He is the Righteous SERVANT: “He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities … My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high.” (Isaiah 52:11-13 NKJV)
Heaven will be filled with nothing but those who are free bondservants

The passage emphasizes there will be no SEPARATION between Jew and Greek, bond and free, male and female.
•    The Holman Christian Study Bible states, “However, in the Lord, woman is not independent of man, and man is not independent of woman. For just as woman came from man, so man comes through woman, and all things come from God.” (1 Corinthians 11:11-12 HCSB)
•    The Evangelical Commentary on the Bible states, “While the complementarity of sexual differences remains, such differences no longer represent any barriers to full participation in the newness of life found in Christ.” (Galatians 3:28 Evangelical Commentary on the Bible)
